Healers & Mediwizards
Game Info

Healers in St. Mungo’s have three prominent positions. On every floor, there is one Healer-In-Charge, several Healers and several Trainee Healers.

The Staff, including all Healers, are required to wear Lime Green Robes with the St. Mungo’s Symbol on the chest.

Those seeking to enter a medical field under the war programmes were put in an extensive medical training program that catered to basic needs and eventually branched off into their individual fields. The first two months of training for both Medi-wizard and Healer trainees are taught together. First aid procedure, as well as spells, potions, and technique are taught, along with legal procedures that must be followed in both fields. All trainees must pass their two-month evaluation before starting in their assigned fields.

The final evaluation occurs after they've completed their two months of basic magical medical-care training. It makes sure that the trainee can apply the book knowledge discussed and practiced at the start of the program to life situations. These situations, magically simulated in the examination, vary from evaluating symptoms of a patient and acknowledging the proper steps to fixing them, to completely enchanted-simulated situations, where administering first aid to an injured somebody while events are occurring around them is vital to the patient. This determines whether a person can handle the stresses that come within the medical field.

After the two months, the trainees are required to go through an assessment test, to best place them on the floor they will excel in the most. After they are placed, they are assigned to a healer, who they will shadow for the remainder of their training period. After 4 years have been completed, they have their full exams and evaluation by the Healer’s they’ve trained under. After passing, they are promoted to full Healer and assigned to a ward or wing.

St. Mungo's Specialisation: Primary St. Mungo's placement, 4 days a week, rotating floors and wings each day, varying from emergencies to check-ups. One day a week field work required.

Medi-Wizards are the “paramedics” of the Wizarding World. Their training consists mainly of field work. Their uniforms are white, with the Medi-Wizard symbol on the back; A red circle with a broom and a sparking wand crossing over each other.

Like healers, there are three prominent positions. Every “area zone” has a MW-in-Charge, Medi-Witch/Wizard and Medi-Witch/Wizard Trainee.

Once their third month of training is complete, and their instructor signs them off, these trainees are paired off with another trainee and then, as pairs, are assigned to train under experienced Medi-wizards who are on the field every day (i.e. shadowing). Depending on what part of Britain they're assigned to and what the events of the day are, the sort of "action" these trainees see is determined. Some might tend to basic cuts and bruises, while others might be placed in the middle of a dramatic battle. The elements medi-wizards see are undetermined, and cannot be predicted, which is why a part of their third month in training is a psychological evaluation.

After completing their training, they are assigned to an “Area Zone” and given a map. The map is a coloured area map of Wizarding Britain. Each section is a different colour and separated – it’s a Wizarding map, and the area they are assigned to is larger and highlighted, allowing each road/neighbourhood/area is in full detail. They are required to spend their shift in that area, receiving their orders as they do their rotation (walking/flying around the area).

Orders are quite a bit like the journal enchantments. MW’s receive a small, black bound notebook, which is updated anytime there is an emergency in the MW’s assigned area. There is a name, address and type of emergency listed, which is transmitted from the Wizarding Hospital in Cornwall. To report an emergency, it’s a floo call to the emergency number and it will be given a priority, which is sent out to the MW in the area or one that’s assigned to that specialisation.

Medi-Witches and Wizards must have their apparition licenses and able to fly a broom. There are several specializations that MW’s can go into, including (but not limited to):

Auror Specialisation: Front of the line MW’s. They’re the best trained and the best adjusted to war-time wounds. They can handle blood and are the first ones sent in during a raid or any other gruesome scene.

Quidditch Specialisation: Anyone can be sent to a Quidditch Match, but there are certain MW’s that spend their entire shifts with Quidditch teams, or at Quidditch games.

Home Incidents: The tamer of the specialisations, these MW’s are trained to enter Wizards homes and deal with cuts, bruises, heart attacks and other house-hold accidents.

Wizarding School Specialisation: Assigned to a Wizarding School to be the resident MW. A very prestigious role and given only to senior MW's and MW-In-Charge.

MW’s are given their schedules in advance, and while they may be specialized in something like Home Incidents, they’re often placed at large events or Quidditch games, as needed. A Medi-Witch/Wizard needs to be fully trained in all areas and able to conform to any situation they’re given.
